SUBSTATION SAFETY ACCESS TRAINING FOR CONTRACTORS
This course is designed to train outside contractors with basic information to enter distribution or transmission substations. There are 3 levels of training available, entering with a company provided escort, unescorted access and escort privileges for contractors. The course discusses the basics of utility equipment and designs so the contractors can enter and work safely within the boundaries of a substation. This course can be tailored to operating company requirements.
CONDUCTING DOCUMENTED PRE-JOB SAFETY BRIEFINGS
This course provides a comprehensive review of the criteria for conducting, documenting and effectively communicating safety information to crews in the utility industry. Sample forms and discussion templates are provided.
HOT WORK PERMITS
This course reviews the OSHA requirements for operating under a hot work permit, for cutting, welding, or grinding activities. Sample forms and work area protection checklists are provided.
SAFETY FOR TRAFFIC SUPPORT SERVICES FOR THE UTILITY INDUSTRY
This course is designed for contractors who provide traffic support services for an electric utility. Police Departments, professional traffic services, or Fire Departments who respond to electric utility emergency or provide traffic support during construction or maintenance activities. It provides the basics of the hazards of utility work while in a traffic zone.
POWER PLANT SAFETY INSPECTIONS (COAL, HYDRO, LNG, OIL)
Comprehensive reviews or targeted area inspections for electric generation facilities. Review is provided by an industry insider who has utility power plant safety experience. Reviews can cover:
- Rigging equipment
- Fixed cranes
- Tagging Systems (Lockout / Tagout)
- Incident Review and Root Cause
- Storage facilities
- Belt feed systems
- Maintenance shops
- Arc Flash programs
- PPE (FR clothing systems)
- Fall protection systems
ATV / UTV SAFETY TRAINING
A safety course that instructs operators of all-terrain vehicles how
to safety operate this equipment for utility work. This course is
both a classroom and a practical ride course*.
OPERATORS LEARN TO SAFELY USE:
- ATV’s or UTV’s (Utility Vehicle)
- Winches (when equipped)
- Environmental friendly operation (Tread Lightly)
- Severe weather operation (snow, mud, ice)
- Maintenance of equipment
- Negotiating steep grades
- Removing stuck vehicles
- Recommended equipment for ATV for utility operations
* Practical course is performed onsite in a pre-arranged area.
